Remember To Take Breaks & Wear Pants

So you’re at home. Been there for a few weeks. If you’re like me and you’re working from home, you’re busier than you have ever been, jumping online as soon as you wake up and finishing calls and meetings well into the evenings. It’s quite funny but who would have ever thought that getting dressed in the morning and heading into work would be considered downtime? In the context of our lives today, it is. There are some days that I haven’t even had a washroom break and it is 1pm! Ok too much information, I realize.  :)

But I’m not complaining one bit. Given everything we are going through, I am happy to have a job and happy to be busy with said job. I’m very impressed with the steps taken by the company I work for. Communication is happening all the time about Covid-19, including weekly livestreams with our CEO, the company doctor and members of our health and safety teams.  The focus is definitely on employee safety and well being.

What has been amazing to see is how quickly my company and other companies have pivoted to accommodate our new reality - sending people home in droves to work in a safe environment, as an example. If you are able to work from home, consider yourself lucky. Many of our essential services workers are risking their personal health and safety every day and we should all be very thankful to the nurses, doctors, grocery workers, truck drivers and so many others for what they do.

But I’m still working non-stop. My shoulder has started to hurt a bit from being on my mouse and I’ve been feeling some aches and pains in my lower back area. So if you are like me, we need to make sure we are taking mental and physical breaks (go to the washroom!), getting nourished and having a laugh or a chuckle with your co-workers. The great thing is that even though it’s not face to face, I feel like I’m ‘seeing’ some of my co-workers more now than ever before.  Connections can definitely happen virtually, through calls, web conferences and so many other tools.  But please, make sure you’re wearing pants when you get up from your video calls. We don’t want to see that much of you. :)

Be safe, Shades readers! Stay home and stay tuned for some upcoming events we’ll be hosting virtually in the months to come!
